The buzz around town is that the must-see holiday attraction is Gaylord National’s ICE! featuring ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. The scenes from the poem were created by 40 of Harbin, China’s most talented master artisans and made entirely from 5,000 blocks of ice weighing two million pounds. The carvings are displayed inside a 15,000 square feet temporary structure that is kept at a CHILLY nine degrees Fahrenheit! Curious, my friend Jenny and I went to see what all the hype was about. We waited in line for more than two hours. Right before we entered the structure they loaned us huge parka jackets to wear. I felt like the kid stuffed in the snowsuit from the movie ‘A Christmas Story’. The massive ice sculptures were impressive and pretty, but the whole excursion (poem scenes, ice slide, NYC and nativity sculptures) took less than 30 minutes to complete. It’s waaaaay overpriced given the short length of the experience, but it’s fun. My favorite part was the ice slide!
